Tomac can cheer at the Ironman Raceway!
The first two events of the AMA Outdoor Nationals were held at the track located on Loretta Lynn's Ranch. For the third national, however, it was time to look elsewhere. Now it was the turn of the Ironman Raceway, a course located in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and known to many because of the results that Jeffrey Herlings achieved there in 2017.
It was there that Saturday in the early evening, our time, that the debates were opened. At the start of the first moto it was KTM Pilot Marvin Musquin who managed to take the holeshot. Behind the Frenchman, several pilots left the track, including Justin Bogle among the victims. However, Eli Tomac was not bothered by this because he also managed to get a good start. In the first rounds of the competitions we see that the top players who started less well quickly take their place at the front. This gives us a leading pack that races over this breathtaking course at a terrifying speed. With just over ten minutes to go, it is only Eli Tomac and Marvin Musquin who can maintain this high pace and these two will decide who will win the first round. Eli Tomac tries several times to get close enough for an attack but fails to achieve a real attack. So we see Marvin Musquin win the first heat ahead of the Kawasaki pilot and Adam Cianciarulo. Adam Cianciarulo managed to shake off Chase Sexton in the fight with all the other top players. Zach Osborne who was also in the running for third place and was dueling with the Kawasaki pilot and the Honda pilot got himself into trouble several times and would eventually drop back to seventh. This behind Blake Baggett who finished fifth and Justin Barcia who finished sixth. In the stacked 450 class, Dean Wilson, Broc Tickle and Frederik Noren completed the top ten.
In the second moto it was Zach Osborne who took the holeshot, ahead of Adam Cianciarulo, Marvin Musquin and Eli Tomac, among others. Eli Tomac made quick work of a successful attack on Marvin Musquin and then teamed up with his teammate to find Zach Osborne. Behind them, Justin Barcia also passed Marvin Musquin and the man on the Yamaha quickly joined us, presenting us with an interesting spectacle. With less than just over ten minutes on the clock, Adam Cianciarulo found the way through Zach Osborne. However, it was not over for the Husqvarna pilot, as a few laps later he saw both Justin Barcia and Eli Tomac simultaneously pass and he fell back to fourth place. While Max Anstie received care for laps after a fall. Justin Barcia, Eli Tomac and Adam Cianciarulo, unaware of any harm, went all the way. Who would break first in this fight. With seven minutes to go it was just too much for Adam Cianciarulo. In two corners he first saw Eli Tomac sneak past, followed by his shadow named Justin Barcia... And a few minutes later AC9 really got a cold shower, because there was suddenly Zach Osborne again who referred the exhausted Adam Cianciarulo back to fourth place . Also the place where he would finish. Zach Osborne also tried to reconnect with the leading duo, but he acted at a different level in this second series. Eli Tomac remained in the lead with Justin Barcia as his shadow. With a few laps to go, Eli Tomac's engine started smoking again. Would it? Could it really be that the Kawasaki would give the blow to Maarten again like in Loretta Lynn II? No, the engine kept running until the finish and Justin Barcia came no closer than into the shadow of Eli Tomac! Eli Tomac won the second round and the overall with a 2-1 score. Justin Barcia finished second ahead of Zach Osborne, Adam Cianciarulo and Chase Sexton, who achieved this result after a bad start
In the daily rankings, as already mentioned, the victory goes to Eli Tomac ahead of Marvin Musquin, who finished sixth in the second series after his victory in the first round. On the third step of the overall ranking we find Adam Cianciarulo with third and fourth places.
