Technology: the tubeless system for motocross
While almost every wheel in the transport sector functions without an inner tube, motocross riders still ride with an inner tube or a foam. The industry has been looking for a solution for twenty years, but the systems have always been thrown overboard because they are too complicated, too expensive, not reliable, etc. Only Grand Prix riders were given access to the technology, but the Nuetech company continued to persist in the anger.
They have had a tubeless system on the market since 2008 under the name Nuetech Tubliss. The product has been refined over years into a user-friendly system with some undeniable advantages. In short, this means that a type of bicycle tire is used as a rim tape to press the sides of the tire airtight onto the rim. The rim clamps will be eliminated and from now on you will have two valves in your rim: one to inflate the "bicycle tire" (about 7 bar) and clamp the tire on the rim and one to pump the air pressure into your tire.
The advantages
The Nuetech Tubliss system has several advantages. The weight of your rear wheel drops drastically because you are not using a heavy duty inner tube or foam. The weight that decreases in the driven mass has a lot to do with the handling of the engine. Both the engine and the rear suspension will respond much more directly. If you puncture your tire, you can still complete the series without the tire coming off the rim. When using an inner tube, the tire pressure will always increase during the race. This is due to the friction between the inner and outer tires. This is not the case with the Tubliss system. With Nuetech Tubliss you can also race with much lower air pressure if the circuit (i.e. muddy conditions) requires it. A tire pressure of 200 grams is perfectly feasible to create grip.
Installation
The Nuetech Tubliss system requires a separate method of installation. Therefore, watch the video carefully. You need to drill an extra hole in the rim (for the second valve). There should be four spokes between the two valves. If you purchase a set for both wheels, you can expect to pay approximately €230 to drive tubeless.
