Smets, Wedage and Bolink score in Kegums
Kim Savat crossed the finish line as winner again after a long time
The first round of the second match of the European Open Championship was won by Kim Eric Savaste. The 20-year-old rider from Helsinki won ahead of Karel Kutsar and Toms Macuks. Greg Smets scored well in ninth place, two drivers managed to score for the Netherlands. Damian Wedage finished nineteenth ahead of Mike Bolink.
The sprint to the first corner is won by Savaste, the Finn takes the lead ahead of Toendel and Simeo Ubach. The Spaniard quickly loses third place to Karlis Kalejs and Kutsar, who started from pole. Toendel is clearly looking forward to it and tries to take over the lead. However, the Norwegian made too many mistakes and after 5 minutes he crashed. Savaste has a safe lead in the first half of the match, but then Macuks comes up. This means that second man Kutsar also has to join the KTM rider in the lead. With nine minutes to go, Macuks manages to take over second place, but despite mistakes by the leader, the Finn continues to hold the lead. The 137 Motorsport rider wins ahead of Kutsar who has a strong final and manages to pass Macuks. The winner of the first race now comes third ahead of Miro Sihvonen and Stefan Ekerold.
