Liam Everts scores eighth place overall in International MX2 race in Axel
As final preparation for the restart of the 'EMX' championship, Liam Everts took part in the International test competition in Axel last weekend. After participating in the previous international test competition in Arnhem on the 125cc machine, he now started in the MX2 class on the heavier KTM 250 SX-F.
In qualifying, Liam set the fifteenth fastest time, which could be considered solid in this strong field of participants. It was therefore from the fifteenth starting position that we saw the 'Gerry De Haes Ramen en Deuren' sponsored pilot take a mediocre start. A start that landed him in the belly of the field. However, Liam did not give up and quickly made up a few places, making rapid progress and managing to climb the ranks. Unfortunately, the rush to the front came to a halt after an unfortunate fall. The pilot supported by 'VDK Autocars - Reisburo' briefly came into contact with the rear wheel of a competitor and immediately fell to twenty-fourth place. Back on the bike the fight to the front started again. After a real catch-up hunt in which thirteen pilots had to cope, Liam ultimately finished eleventh in this first heat.
The second heat started with a much better start. We saw Liam come sixth through the first corners with his 'Motorex' lubricated KTM machine. However, Liam soon came under pressure from some top players, and some of them went past number 72. As a result, we saw 'the youngster' briefly fall back to ninth position. In and around this position Liam found his place in the match and also his rhythm. He therefore overtook for eighth place and fought for seventh place. Until another small mistake led to a crash. The pilot sponsored by 'TDL Group' quickly resumed his race, starting from thirteenth place. Why some would just hang their heads at this moment, this setback just fuels the fire in the EMX125 championship leader.
In an attempt to make up for lost places, we see Liam setting some fast laps. The man in 'Yoko' clothes quickly moves up to eleventh place. However, he is not satisfied with that. It is clear that the fire within has not yet been extinguished for this moto, and tenth place quickly becomes a goal. For a long time it seemed like an unattainable goal, that tenth place. Yet the mentally and physically strong Liam continues to attack the course in the hope of getting closer. With one third of the race to go, we suddenly see the gap in tenth place shrinking noticeably. The KTM pilot, supported by '4Gold', hardly experiences any decline in his lap times, unlike the young man in tenth place. Going into the final lap, Liam is in an ideal position to attack tenth place. Something he does successfully, which means he ultimately manages to finish tenth in this second heat.
With an eleventh position in the first heat and a tenth in the second heat. Liam Everts scores 21 points in total, which is good for eighth place in the final score of the day.
