Jago Geerts about his successful dress rehearsal in Axel
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory rider Jago Geerts went to Axel for his dress rehearsal in view of the restart of the FIM world championship in Kegums next Sunday. And it was a successful dress rehearsal, with – again – a double series victory.
Last weekend Geerts won both series in Arnhem, where almost all the top riders of the MX2 World Championship were at the start. Admittedly, the competition was slightly less tough this Sunday in Axel, the Netherlands. Some top riders - including Jago's Monster Energy Yamaha Factory teammate Ben Watson - preferred a weekend of rest in view of the restart of the World Championship in Kegums next Sunday.
The story of the first series in Axel is very short: Geerts took the holeshot on his YZ250FM, pulled hard in the initial phase until he had a nice gap and then controlled until the finish. The second race was an identical copy of the first series. Geerts was once again unstoppable. His third double series victory in a row, after triumphs in Kaplice and Arnhem.
Jago Geerts: “It was a perfect day. Great starts and everything under control from start to finish. A nice feeling. I am especially satisfied with my starts in recent weeks. Hopefully the next weekend in Latvia will be just as good. I'm really looking forward to the restart of the World Cup. Kegums is one of my favorite courses. And, after good preparation, I am also going to Latvia with confidence.”
