HOT: Julien Lieber ends his career!
JM Honda Racing rider Julien Lieber announced today that he will retire as a professional motocross rider with immediate effect. The 26-year-old Belgian has been sidelined for the past 12 months due to injuries he sustained in the German GP last year.
The news may come as a shock, but for Lieber - a competitive animal through and through - the conclusion was inevitable. You wouldn't immediately notice that there is something wrong with Julien if you saw him driving alone. In terms of style, technique and the ease with which the classy rider from Malmedy did his thing, he could compare with the best riders in the world.
The JM Honda Racing rider was on the podium in both the EMX250 and MX2. In the MXGP, his best result was a 4th place at the Imola GP in 2018. Lieber was also successful in his two MX of Nations participations for Team Belgium. In 2014 he won bronze, one year later he took bronze.
There is no doubt that the protégé of three-time world champion Yves Demaria had the potential to also distinguish himself in MXGP on the JM Honda CRF450R. Unfortunately, fate decided otherwise.
“The collaboration with Julien was excellent. It quickly became clear that the Honda was a perfect match for him”, said JM Honda Racing team manager Jacky Martens. “This winter everything looked promising, but unfortunately his injuries continued to hinder him. The fact that Julien is retiring is very unfortunate for the team, but it is certainly also difficult for him personally to take this step. In any case, I wish him the best of luck in the next chapter of his life!”
