How did Liam Everts fare in Latvia?!
Last Saturday all EMX250 pilots were back at work to qualify for Kegums III. The third EMX250 race contested on the Latvian circuit in less than ten days. For Liam Everts, the first race, with two sixteenth places, did not go as hoped. Fortunately, he was able to recover a few days later on the circuit, which is a stone's throw from the Latvian capital Riga.
With a good seventh and eleventh place, Liam was able to quickly wash away the disappointing result. The result of this second EMX250 Grand Prix immediately created a hopeful anticipation for the third race on Latvian soil.
Unfortunately, the time training again did not go well. A somewhat overstressed Liam was far below his capabilities with a twenty-fourth time. On the other hand, the pilot supported by 'Twin-Air' had already shown that poor qualifying training and the associated worse starting position do not necessarily stop him in his hunt for strong results and big points.
However, such a starting gate far to the outside of the track does not make the job any easier. We see this in the first heat, in which Liam only comes through the first corners in twenty-eighth position after the start. A strong first lap sees the Yoko pilot move up to nineteenth place. A few laps later, Liam manages to move up to fifteenth place in the race. By setting strong and consistent lap times, he can once again make up a few places on his KTM 250 SX-F with Maxxis tires. However, Liam's hunger for more is not over yet and he gives himself completely until the checkered flag falls. There he finally crosses the line in eleventh place, just one second behind the man in tenth place. A beautiful recovery from the boy who just turned 16!
In the second heat the start is again not great. As a result, Liam is almost involved in a crash just after the first corner. However, Lady Luck is kind to him and prevents him from being dragged into this fall. So no delay for Liam, so the 'Bouwconcept Freddy Versluys' sponsored pilot comes fifteenth in the first round. In the rounds that follow, LE72 manages to gain two places and climb to thirteenth place. And then, in two laps, immediately moving up to ninth place! Once there, he immediately throws himself into the battle for places seven and eight. A battle that would last six laps and all the way to the finish. Liam Everts wins one more place on the course and crosses the finish line in eighth!
In the official results, however, Liam will rank seventh, after the disqualification of one of his fellow EMX250 pilots. This concludes the Foodmaker pilot 'Kegums 3.0' with an impressive eleventh and seventh place. Both combined they are good for seventh place in the daily results. In the EMX250 championship you can find Liam in seventh place with 87 points.
Liam Evert: “The first Grand Prix here in Kegums did not go as hoped. Due to a crash in the first heat and becoming a bit ill between the heats, I did not get further than a sixteenth place twice. Fortunately, the two following EMX250 races here in Kegums went a lot better. I managed to achieve solid results, which meant that I also managed to score a top ten result twice in the final score of the EMX250 Grand Prix. When I also look at the list of all pilots who have unfortunately been injured in the past three Grand Prix races here in Kegums, I am extremely satisfied that I can go home in one piece. There we can continue to build for the future.”
