Herlings and Cairoli about Kegums 1
Tall trees catch a lot of wind. After his strong pre-season performance in Axel, Jeffrey Herlings remained below expectations yesterday with a mediocre 5th place. Part of the Latvian triumvirate also did not bring the desired result for Red Bull KTM colleague Tony Cairoli. How do the gentlemen look back on Kegums?
Jeffrey Herlings: “Today could have been better. A few bad starts, and in the first moto I was a little too slow at the beginning. I came back from last to fourth place, but wasted too much energy pushing so much. I'm certainly not satisfied, but we have now started racing again and I know what I have to do when we go for it again in three days."
Tony Cairoli: “It was very tough today. Starting everything again after five months meant that it would be difficult because we had no race pace. But I knew I had trained well and was in good shape. The only problem was my start and we saw the consequences on this circuit where it is difficult to get through the pack. I felt very good to get back to 7th place in the first moto and was happy. I was determined to do better in the second and was thinking about winning to be honest. I had a better start but had problems again in the first corner and was hit by another rider. I twisted my knee again. I didn't feel 100% in the beginning and took it easy, but made another mistake and fell back outside the top thirty. After that I tried to regroup and limit the damage. This is not the result we wanted, but I saw a lot of riders having problems this first race. There is no reason to panic, but of course we want better results. I want to get back behind the fence and show what I can do. It has been so important lately to be present at the start of the series of measurements. In any case, that is where the key lies.”
