GasGas Factory riders about their third GP in Kegums
During the first of the three MXGP races in Kegums, Glenn Coldenhoff (photo) wrote history. The 29-year-old rider gave GasGas their first victory in the MXGP. The second match went less well due to a heavy fall. During the third match, Ivo Monticelli managed to win the FOX Holeshot Award both times. Here the GasGas drivers talk about Kegums 3.
Glenn Coldenhoff: “The third match here would be a challenge with my injury. Fortunately, nothing was broken during my crash on Wednesday, just a hematoma around my ribs which is very painful, especially on a track like this. I had to ride different lines than normal to avoid the biggest bumps. It's not ideal to race this way and I expected to finish in the top 15, so going 7-6 and sixth overall is something I'm happy with. In the first race I started slowly. I mainly didn't want to fall, so I was patient and as the field expanded I was able to push and pass and finished in seventh place, so this was a good race. The second race I finished sixth, a little bit better and it was really only two results which are good for the championship and much better than expected. I will now work on further recovery in the coming weeks.”
Ivo Monticelli: “Today was quite a good day with a lot more points to my name and consistent races. I'm a little disappointed about the first race, but I have to be happy because of the long road after my injury. I'm still recovering and fighting to get back to 100%, but it was a shame to be at the front for so long in the first race after pulling another holeshot. But I have the speed, so for the next round I will focus on my training, because my GASGAS is perfectly adjusted, I just need to improve my fitness. I will now go back to Belgium and continue training and be ready for the next GP.”
Simon Langenfelder: “Today was really good and bad. In the first race I had a great start and managed to stay in sixth place for a long time. I really wanted to end up in this position, so I pushed and pushed as long as I could. Unfortunately I pushed too hard and got a bit tired, dropping back to 13th. I was disappointed, but 13th is still a good result. I know my GASGAS will always give me a good start so I can now continue to learn and improve my racing craft. It's only my fifth GP and we've had three in one week here in Latvia and I've learned so much. I am healthy and looking forward to the next match.”
