Word of thanks to the Dirk Geukens family
It's cliché, but the news of Dirk Geukens' death hit like a bomb. And that was putting it mildly. Even though the family had so many other things on their minds, the massive expressions of support from motorsport showed how Dirk had touched so many people in his own way.
The fact that his family and club, KMC Mol, took the trouble to thank everyone for their support during these times completely fits who Geukens himself was. His wife Gerda, children Lien and Nick put it this way on Dirk's memorial card:
“Daddy, you're not dying. You go with us everywhere. Your love in our hearts. All the beautiful memories in our heads.
“Daddy, you're still here. You always stay close. We see you in the mirror. In a part of ourselves....”
May everyone continue to cherish the wonderful memories of the former champion and Motorsport Future trainer and, above all: if he also inspired you positively, then be a little more Dirk yourself from now on! Or as he inspired his great-nephew, photographer Stefan Geukens, to take the beautiful, modest photo above.
Boasting was certainly not the style of the friendly Balenaar, but the above statement - as they would say in the Kempen - is correct. Thanks for everything Dirk!
