Quarantine mandatory: will Belgian pilots still get to Kegums?
Yesterday, a new corona measure was imposed by the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Every resident who comes from a country where the infection rate is higher than 15 people per 100.000 inhabitants must be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival. This means that the Belgian MXGP and MX2 pilots will in principle not reach Kegums in time.
The infection rate in our country has risen to 29 people per 100.000 in recent weeks, so our country now turns orange on the map of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. Upon arrival in Latvia, Belgians are required to go into quarantine for 14 days. But there are only 11 days left until the MXGP and MX2 races on Sunday, August 9. There is one less day left for the EMX pilots because they will ride this GP on Saturday.
On the Belgian side, Clement Desalle, Julien Lieber, Jeremy Van Horebeek, Nathan Renkens, Cyril Genot, Jago Geerts, Adrien Wagener, Liam Everts, Romain Delbrassinne, Julian Vander Auwera, Wesly Dieudonne and Greg Smets are on the various participant lists. This decision is again bad news for the GPs in Latvia yesterday we already announced that the parliament in Latvia is not very keen to allow the race to continue.
This is currently stated on the Foreign Affairs website: Traveling to Latvia is possible provided the following conditions are taken into account:
– respect a quarantine of 15 days
To restore travel traffic with the EU countries, the Baltic countries have developed a joint evaluation system. Travel is free for EU countries that have an infection rate of less than 15 people per 100.000 inhabitants in the last 15 days. Checks on travelers take place at airports and ports and at national borders.
Belgium is currently one of the countries above this infection rate, which means that travelers from our country are required to self-isolate for 15 days upon arrival.
