Lommel will receive three GPs in October!
The new MXGP calendar would be announced tonight or tomorrow evening. Various sources show that Lommel will receive no fewer than three Grand Prizes according to the new calendar. These are scheduled for October 18, 21 and 25.
The concept of a double or triple GP at one location had been heard in the corridors for some time. Using the same locations saves budgets and also makes it easier to comply with safety measures and adapt the infrastructure. This strategy was/is also chosen in AMA Supercross, MotoGP and Formula 1.
In all likelihood, Kegums (Latvia) and KymiRing (Finland) will remain at the top of the calendar. To offer the riders a new experience, the track in Lommel would be redesigned for the last GP.
