Kay de Wolf to the MX2 World Championship in 2021?
Although hardly any competitions were held in 2020, there are of course places that need to be filled. Thomas-Kjer Olsen will definitely have to switch to MXGP next season. According to Speedweek journalist Günther Wiesinger, Jed Beaton would be joined by super talent Kay De Wolf at Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory MX2 next year.
EMX250 rookie Kay De Wolf will not turn 16 until September. However, the multiple Dutch champion has already confirmed that he is also on the right track in the quarter liter. The more experienced Beaton will be the spearhead of the Negaan MX team in 2021, while De Wolf can grow in his wake.
“We wondered whether we would dare to fully invest in such a young guy. And we decided to go for it,” said KTM Motorsport Director Pit Beirer in the conversation with Günther Wiseinger. Click here for the full news item on Speedweek.
In a response to MXMag, Beirer clarified the following. “I meant that our hope is that Kay can fill that second spot next to Jed Beaton. But first we have to see how things go in a few matches. Ultimately, the final decision lies with Rasmus (Jorgensen), the team manager.”
