Kay De Wolf and the Husqvarna riders look back on Arnhem
With a 2nd place for Thomas Kjer Olsen in MX2 and great results for his teammates Jed Beaton (4th), Kay De wolf (6th) and Arminas Jasikonis (4th), Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing can look back on a successful day at the Motorsportpark Gelderland Midden.
Olsen proved in Arnhem that he has fully recovered from his wrist injury at the beginning of this season. Beaton and De Wolf also left a good impression today. Among the GP riders, EMX250 rider De Wolf was not inferior. With an eighth and seventh place, the “Red Hurricane” once again proved its class.
Arminas Jasikonis had previously won a race in Lithuania. It became clear in the morning that AJ rides with confidence because the tall Rockstar Energy Husky rider also took pole in the MX1. After a top-10 place, he achieved a P5 in the first moto. In the second series, Jasikonis played a leading role. After a strong start, he fought in the leading group until the end, clocked the fastest lap of the race and finished just 2,6 (!) seconds behind winner Colenhoff.
Thomas Kjer Olsen: “It was quite a successful day. Second overall in a strong field is a great result. The track was really tough. Really rough and often there was only one good line, so I kept my wits about me and stayed strong on the bike. It was great to be racing again and I felt great on my bike. It was a shame that I had a small fall in the second race, but luckily that had no effect on the overall result. So to come away healthy and on the podium is great.”
Jed Beaton: “It was great to race again today and get a few starts before the start of the World Championship. It's been a long time since we were at the start of a competition. So the nerves were back and it was good to get those nerves out of the way two weeks before Latvia! I rode a bit cramped in the first moto, which was to be expected after so much time without a bike. It was great to lead some laps in the middle part of that race. I've been working a lot on my starts lately and that translated into two good starts today. The fact that I finished joint third among almost all World Championship riders makes me very happy with where I am now."
Kay de Wolf: “It was a great day for me. In the first race I didn't have the best start, but I was able to quickly overtake and move to the front. It was a good result for me, I finished eighth after a mid-pack start. In the second moto I had a much better start. I was able to pass a few riders and passed Tom Vialle for seventh place on the last lap. Overall, I'm happy. We haven't raced for a long time, so it is certainly a great result to finish sixth in this field.”
Armin Jasikonis: “It's great to be racing again, and to be able to compete against top riders like in the GPs. I'm very happy with how today went. It wasn't an easy circuit to overtake but my lap times were good, so I'm happy with that. I didn't have a good start in the first moto and then rode a bit cramped. It wasn't easy from the middle of the pack, and I had quite a few riders in front of me. I pushed hard but, let's just say, I rode far from perfect. The second moto was better. I had a better start and was able to continue well together with the other guys in the lead. It was great to race like that. We sat quite close together. There are still some things to work on, but it was great to race and I'm looking forward to the next race, next weekend in Axel.”
