Coldenhoff about his historic GasGas victory!
Glenn Coldenhoff's victory in Arnhem was not just one. For the first time, the modern GasGas took a victory in an international motocross thanks to 'The Hoff'! The GasGas riders also competed for the first time on the new factory equipment, the MC 250F and MC 450 F.
For Ivo Monticelli it was his first match in a long time as he had shoulder surgery in April. In the run-up to Arnhem, the Italian Standing Construct pilot was only on the bike for four weeks. In the first moto he had to retire after a crash, but in heat 2 Monticelli came out strong with a seventh place.
Glenn Coldenhoff: “It felt great to be racing again. I worked very hard and put a lot of time into my motorcycle training and my physical training and it showed today. Before this weekend I suffered a small foot injury and I was unable to ride for five days, but my foot is completely healed and I am 100%. Qualifying was good, third place. My reaction to the start wasn't great in the first race and I had to push hard to get ahead. I was riding a little tense because I hadn't raced for so long, so second place was a great way to get back into competition.
In race two I took a huge holeshot. I then made a small mistake and fell back to second place. Halfway through I was able to take the lead again and after that it was a sprint to the end. We were all pushing so hard for the win! I am really happy for myself and the team that I took the race and the overall victory.”
Ivo Monticelli: “It was great to finally be at the start of a race again. I had shoulder surgery in April and was sidelined for three months. I've been riding for a month now, so today was the first race for me and the team. Unfortunately I fell in the first race and crashed with another rider. His bike damaged mine, meaning I couldn't continue, which was disappointing. The second race was really good for me, seventh place and the fact that I was approaching sixth at the end showed that my fitness is good. Especially because the circuit was very tough.”
Simon Langenfelder: “This weekend was a tough race. I was a bit nervous, which is to be expected as I hadn't raced in such a strong field for so long. The first moto wasn't great. I had a bad start and I collided with another rider, but I was able to move up and finished the moto in fifth place. I was a bit surprised because in the first lap I was only around 20th place. That's how I know my speed is good. The second race I had a great start, but I went into the first corner too fast. I managed to stay upright and then got into a good rhythm. Tenth place in the moto was okay, not as good as first, but overall I'm very happy. It's great to be racing again and I'm also happy for my team.”
