MX for Kids starts on July 4!
In recent months, we have been working hard behind the scenes on the launch of MX for Kids. This unique youth training course introduces children between 6 and 12 to motorcross in a playful and responsible way. The first sessions are planned for Saturday, July 4 in Lommel, the mecca of the cross world.
Flemish riders are well represented on the honors lists of the Motocross World Championship and the MX of Nations, the world championship for national teams. That is no coincidence because we have always had many practitioners of this popular sport.
But how do you actually start racing? With that question in mind, the VMBB, Sport Vlaanderen, the Flemish circuit owners and Motorsport Future developed a ready-made answer.
Electric motocross
Children between 6 and 12 without motorcycle experience can now have fun with MX for Kids. Young riders are taught the tricks of the trade step by step. Experienced trainers coach kids on how to safely master a dirt bike. “The first sessions will take place with small and very user-friendly electric KTM motorcycles. They are perfectly tailored to the needs of beginners.” explains project manager Stefan Peetermans from.
“As the children progress and become more skilled, they are presented with new techniques and progress to other youth motorcycles such as the Yamaha semi-automatics and finally the KTM 65SX and Yamaha YZ65. The last two mini-bikes are aimed at competition. Because children who have successfully completed the complete MX for Kids training plan of 11 sessions are actually ready to start in a youth competition. ” One MX for Kids session will last approximately 3,5 hours.
Getting better is fun!
Anyone who wants to improve themselves and dreams of a career as a motocross rider will be encouraged by MX for Kids to move on to the next level. For this they got their inspiration from judo, because the darker the color of the belt, the better the judoka. In MX for Kids the aim is to fill up the motorcycle medal completely and get gold.
Dries Michiels, sports technical coordinator VMBB: “Although those so-called badges provide a great challenge, it is mainly because children enjoy their MX for Kids participation. Whether you want to get a taste of motocross or you feel like competing in competitions soon. Everything is possible, as long as it is fun. That is why we consciously choose small groups and trainers who are used to teaching children.”
Democratic motorsport
Unlike many other sports, motorsport is a lot more expensive. However, MX for Kids lowers the threshold considerably. Boys and girls can register for a first session at the introductory price of 39 euros. Absolutely everything is included: from the use of the brand new engines, the terrain, insurance to protective clothing and of course the certified instructors.
After the first registration, you can opt for individual participations for €49 per session, opt for a package of 3 sessions (€139) or immediately go for the rest of the program (10 sessions) for €374. Are you starting to get the itch and do you want to jump in right away? Then make a note of the opening day of the MX for Kids registrations: Monday, June 22.
