D'Ieteren Sport stops importing Yamaha!
It had been heard in the corridors for some time that D'Ieteren Sport wanted to stop importing Yamaha in Belgium and Luxembourg. According to Motorcycle news D'Ieteren Auto is now accelerating the transformation of the company in response to the corona crisis. D'Ieteren Sport, founded in 1975, was indisputably a monument on the Belgian motorcycle market.
Since most brands are directly responsible for the import of their engines, D'Ieteren Sport as an independent importer had become an exception. In addition to importing Yamaha, the company was also responsible for the distribution of motorcycle accessories and clothing for a long time. In addition, D'Ieteren Sport also played an important role in supporting motorsport and motor media in Belgium.
According to “Het Nieuwsblad”, D'Ieteren is now looking for a buyer for D'Ieteren Sport. This is the most obvious option. However, it could also be that Belgium and Luxembourg are 'served' from one joint office that is also responsible for the Netherlands. Kawasaki has previously opted for this solution and also has its European headquarters in the Netherlands. Given Yamaha's European headquarters in Schiphol, this would certainly be a possibility.
What this decision means for Yamaha dealers and owners of Yamaha products (motorcycle, quad & ATV, marine) is currently unclear. D'Ieteren will reportedly provide explanations in a press conference. The restructuring at D'Ieteren Auto would put a total of 211 jobs at risk. We will definitely come back to this.
