Jos Driessen succeeds Olivier Rougraff as BMB chairman
Last night, the General Meeting of the BMB (Belgian Motorcyclists' Association) appointed Jos Driessen as the new chairman for a 4-year mandate. Jos Driessen has already been chairman twice before: from 2004 to 2008 and from 2012 to 2016. He is now starting his 3de term and succeeds Olivier Rougraff.
For the past 4 years, Driessen has been a member of the BMB Board of Directors. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme).
Jos Driessen: “I would like to thank my predecessor, Olivier, for his efforts during his term as BMB chairman. The corona crisis is of course currently having a very serious impact on all our activities. We hope to be able to organize a number of competitions and meetings in most disciplines this year. It is up to the BMB and its affiliated associations to motivate and support our clubs in this regard.
However, we must also use this crisis to prepare our future. That is why I will work with the BMB Executive Office, in which the presidents of our regional associations are also represented, to draw up a policy plan for the period 2021-2024. This plan must capture our vision and objectives and also provide the necessary initiatives to achieve them. The intention is to submit the plan to the Board of Directors in early 2021 so that we can immediately start implementing it. An evaluation will be provided annually.
I also want to modernize our statutes. Our articles of association must be a means to enable our organization to function in a modern and efficient manner with a clear division of roles between the BMB and the AIFs.
I want to use the first months of my mandate to establish the necessary contacts with a number of external partners that are important to the BMB. I am thinking of our circuits of Zolder, Francorchamps and Mettet and the industry (Febiac). Finally, I also want to further strengthen cooperation with the national associations of our neighboring countries.
I will also use my international contacts within the FIM and the promoters for the organization of World Cup and European Championship competitions in our country. I am thinking of the Motocross of Nations, the Motocross World Championship solo and sidecars, the Trial World Championship, the Endurance World Championship, the European Championship MX 65/85, etc.
The electric story with the further development of the E-bike discipline, but also with the organization of competitions for E-motorcycles, will continue to gain in importance and we must play a pioneering role here. For all these projects, I count on the cooperation of all bodies within the BMB and the support of our regional associations, Motorsport Vlaanderen and the Fédération Motocycliste Wallonne de Belgique.”
