MXGP Lommel coincides with “Super Sunday” in cycling!
Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus at the end of February, all major sporting events have been pushed into the autumn, with all the consequences that entails. Yesterday Infront Moto Racing released yet another update to the MXGP races. Lommel now falls on Sunday, October 25, just on a day when there is a lot to do in cycling.
For example, on the same day, 30 km apart, there is the cyclo-cross World Cup race in Zonhoven. The two sports are not direct competitors, but everyone knows that a motocross enthusiast likes to watch cyclocross in the winter. In addition to the cyclo-cross in Zonhoven and the MXGP of Lommel, there is also the final time trial in the Tour of Italy, a stage in the Vuelta and the Paris-Roubaix classic.
In Lommel they keep the option open to organize a second GP a week later if the MXGP of Indonesia in Jakarta is canceled. The new MXGP calendar starts on August 2 in Russia. That is precisely where the coronavirus is hitting in full force, which also makes this attempt to set up a full-fledged competition seem very premature. Further adjustments are therefore very likely.
