Motoklik: space technology in motocross!
On the outside, dirt bikes appear to have barely evolved beyond the annual cosmetic flourishes. However, things are different on the inside. Since the introduction of fuel injection, it was mainly electronics that made rapid progress in the sport. The suspension also improved spectacularly. However, due to a wider range of options, its adjustment is not an easy task. That's why there is now Motoklik.
What is it?
Motoklik is a small electronic device that is attached to the motorcycle to register the movements of the motorcycle.
How does it work?
The device is connected to Galileo, the European network of navigation satellites, and a smartphone. You ride a few laps with the motorcycle and the app on your smartphone tells you exactly how to adjust your suspension.
The advantages
Perfectly adjusting a suspension is open to interpretation. With this device there are none because you can simply read the data you need on a screen. A dirt bike is ridden over variable and therefore difficult to register terrain. With this analysis device you can perfectly read a circuit and adjust the front suspension and rear suspension based on the Motoklik data. It is also possible to analyze a specific section of a circuit.
What else can it do?
Thanks to the connection with the Galileo satellites, you can read your lap times in the same app with unprecedented precision. In addition, the app is equipped with an hour meter to ensure that your engine is serviced on time. The hour meter also makes a distinction between engine block and suspension maintenance.
Motoklik is an Irish company from Kilkenny that developed the technology in collaboration with ESA, the European Space Agency. Founder Jens Köpke crashed his dirt bike in the summer of 2016 after his suspension completely collapsed on a jump. Fortunately, he was unhurt, but asked himself why there was nothing that could tell him how to adjust the suspension. This is how the story of Motoklik started. The device is still in full development and is therefore not yet for sale. All further information can be found here Motoklik.com
