Will there be double GPs in the autumn?
Infront Moto Racing has a big job putting together a proper MXGP calendar this year. Today we heard rumors that the idea of organizing two GPs at one location is being toyed with. This would minimize travel.
Due to the ban on major events, the GP in Lommel cannot take place on August 2 this year. At first the organization did not seem to think that a shift to the autumn was a good idea, but now there seems to be a change of pace in Lommel.
Johan Boonen in The Importance of Limburg: “We have also heard about those plans for double GPs.” There have been no concrete discussions yet, but we are certainly open to it - just like the city of Lommel and the Belgian Motorcyclists' Union. We would like to help save the World Cup. Although there are of course conditions. It must be financially feasible and, most importantly, it must be possible to do it responsibly. The safety and health of the people comes first.”
The idea is to organize two GPs at the same location, but each with a different layout. Outside Lommel, Finland, Sweden and Latvia are also said to be supportive of this system. To be continued.
