Jago Geerts conquers “Wall of Geraardsbergen”
“The proof is in the pudding,” goes a well-known English proverb. Actually, this is the shortened form of “The proof of the pudding is in the eating.” In other words, you only know how good something really is once you have tasted or tried it. Jago Geerts wanted to check how strong his new one was Specialized mountain bike it is!
The meeting place for Geerts' test drive was the 'Muur van Geraardsbergen'. The cobblestones and a gradient of up to 20% make the wall one of the most difficult climbs in Flanders, and of course it is also always one of the most feared zones in the 'Tour of Flanders'.
For his first ever climb of the 'Muur van Geraardsbergen', the Balenian was in good company. Avid mountain biker and local Sven van Weyenberg, the owner of S-Bikes from Geraardsbergen, took up the challenge of the 910 meter long slope. The famous Kapelmuur, the small church at the top (see photo above) was a pleasant stop after that steep climb. Although a mountain bike certainly has advantages, its weight and thicker tires - compared to a racing bike - make this slope even more challenging!

Then Jago and Sven started the long descent to 'De Bosberg' - a second infamous part of 'De Ronde van Vlaanderen' - and one of the five cycling monuments in the world. Concrete slabs at the start and cobblestones in the steep upper parts of the 986 m long hill.
Jago Geerts: “Man, was I happy when we reached the top! Then we disappeared off-road style into the Raspaillebos – a very beautiful nature reserve. Such a cool experience and an epic ride on my Specialized Epic Hardtail. I can't wait to do that again. Thank you Sven and S-Bikes for such a great day.”
