VIDEO: Heroic GP Spain 2008
As a rider you would rather forget some competitions. The second MX2 round in Bellpuig in 2008 was such a race! The conditions were so extreme that day that the second MX1 round, after the quarter-litres, was not held.
In this video you'll see raw footage from filmmaker Alex Rankin starting with the dry and sunny MX2 training followed by footage of the two muddy sequences.
The leading players at the time: #2 Tommy Searle, #4 Tyla Rattray, #39 Davide Guarneri, #13 Manuel Monni, #222 Tony Cairoli, #11 Gautier Paulin and #7 Stephen Sword. Joël Roelants (#34) even had to leave one of his boots in the Catalan mud in that apocalyptic second moto! Yet 'The Fonz' - with only his inner bone - crossed the finish line in fifth. Jeremy Van Horebeek (#89) and Erik Eggens (#80) were also at the start in this mud ballet!
