KTM Group also cancels motorcycle shows
After BMW, the KTM group has now also decided to withdraw from the two most important motorcycle shows in 2020. As a result, KTM will not participate in the INTERMOT in Cologne, nor the EICMA in Milan.
Due to the consequences of the Corona crisis, KTM has taken a whole series of strategic measures that have consequences on many different levels. In view of the well-being of its employees and customers, KTM AG is withdrawing from both world motorcycle shows: Intermot and EICMA.
The proper planning of such events is currently at risk due to the uncertainty surrounding restrictions on public gatherings in most countries. The annual success of these indoor shows also causes hundreds of thousands of visitors to gather in closed spaces for periods of days and even weeks. For these reasons, KTM AG has determined non-participation in both motorcycle shows as a way to ensure a safe and strong return to normal activity.
KTM and Husqvarna Motorcycles will continue with its current and future projects. In the meantime, we are looking at the best way to do this
to launch exciting and innovative models. The board of directors of KTM AG wants to make it clear that it will slow down in the coming months, but that it is ready to go at it for the rest of 2020.
Hubert Trunkenpolz, KTM AG CMO: “Trade shows are important business milestones for the entire motorcycle industry, but given the situation, the public health and well-being of our employees has a higher priority in the coming months. We have thought about this carefully and as a company KTM AG would be happy if the organizers, in particular EICMA, would consider moving their dates to 2021. We hope and expect that the situation will have normalized by then.”
The EICMA motorcycle show takes place every year while Intermot is only organized every two years. It is not yet clear what these developments mean with a view to Gasgas' first Austrian 2021 range.
