WMX: Larissa Papenmeier wins Dutch GP
Yesterday Kiara Fontanesi was able to win the first series, but this morning it was the German Larissa Papenmeier who managed to win series two. She also took the holeshot and took off on her own without allowing anyone in her wheel. Courtney Duncan came out of the starting gate second.
Amandine Verstappen dove over her Bud Racing Kawasaki on the first lap and had to kick for a lap to get the machine running again. Behind Papenmeier it was Lynn Valk who finished nicely in second place ahead of Duncan, Van De Ven and Fontanesi. Nancy Van De Ven was able to pass Duncan but crashed on lap eight, allowing Duncan to take over second place. Van De Ven pushed hard before the finish, but she was just short of moving up one place. Papenmeier thus wins the GP with a third and first place in the series. Kiara Fontanesi finishes second ahead of Van De Ven.
In the World Cup standings, nothing changes at the top of the rankings. Papenmeier does move closer to Duncan and comes within five points. Nancy Van De Ven is the first Dutch rider in fourth place. Amandine Verstappen is only sixteenth and must make up points during the next GPs to do as well as in 2019. The next race for the women is on April 19 in intu Xanadú, Spain.
