Kay de Wolf: “Rules are rules!”
We all recognize it, a beautiful story that ends in a nightmare. That happened to Kay de Wolf yesterday at the Eurocircuit in Valkenswaard. The Husqvarna rider managed to win the second round of the EMX250, but the race management thought differently. For ignoring the yellow flag, the 15-year-old rider was penalized 10 places, meaning he did not finish first but eleventh and missed out on the podium.
Kay de Wolf: “Because of the tension and my enthusiasm because I had the chance to win, I saw the flag too late on the dismount. The moment I was in the air, I already realized that it was too late and that there would be consequences. I had a big lead and I had absolutely no intention of ignoring the flag. I am disappointed but rules are rules.”
