Gebben Racing-Van Venrooij-Yamaha over Valkenswaard
It was a tough weekend in Valkenswaard for everyone, but for Gebben Racing-Van Venrooij-Yamaha in particular. The team that competes with three riders in the FIM MXGP world championship remained completely scoreless in the Brabant sand. Thomas Covington did not take action while teammates Alessandro Lupino and Calvin Vlaanderen did not finish due to engine problems. Both tell their stories here.
Alessandro Lupino: "I am disappointed with the way the Grand Prix went because it didn't go well. On Saturday I had a hard time getting a good feeling on the bike, so I couldn't push. I know that the sand is a bit more difficult for me, but I have never experienced Valkenswaard as it is now. It was very difficult and heavy. Things didn't go the way I wanted and I knew the starts on Sunday would be important. In the first moto we had a problem with the starting clip that did not release. At the end of the first lap I had to go into the pits where my mechanic removed the clip. When I got back to the track, I was already one lap behind, so there was no point in continuing. That's why I started concentrating on the second heat. In the second moto I rode well and was in eighth place on the first lap. Unfortunately we had to deal with a mechanical problem that forced us to leave the race. I feel bad for the team and the sponsors, but this is motocross. I am 100 percent sure that the good results will come soon. I feel good on the bike so I think we will have good times in the next races."
Calvin Vlaanderen: “The home Grand Prix was a difficult one. I felt good on the track and on the bike. I was confident that I could finish top 15 in both motos. Unfortunately, the heats did not go as we had hoped because we had to deal with engine problems. We will take the positive things with us and we will continue in Argentina in two weeks."
