FIM Europe chairman Martin De Graaff about current events
Globally, the situation is becoming more difficult every day due to the consequences of COVID-19. The state of emergency due to the Coronavirus outbreak is changing our way of life and our habits. This of course also has consequences for motorsport.
In the heart of a region seriously affected by this crisis, FIM Europe is also experiencing an extreme moment. After all, what is happening now has never happened before. The European Motorcycle Federation is preparing for the coming months through changes in the calendars but also in the way sporting events will be held.
Many competitions - including in the EMX - have already been canceled. Although FIM Europe wants to organize those planned competitions later, the need to postpone additional, future events also remains very real.
This is a tough decision, motivated by the spirit of full cooperation with current and future regulations, given the difficult situation in Europe and the fact that European governments are introducing provisions to deal with this emergency.
Martin DeGraaff, chairman of FIM Europe: “This is a difficult time for everyone, not only in Europe, but around the world. FIM Europe takes its responsibility in this emergency and is already planning new dates for some postponed competitions. Of course, with respect for the new provisions of the various governments. The motorsport world is strong and solid in the face of this situation and we will continue to work for our riders, to reschedule all events in the calendars. FIM Europe is closely monitoring the evolution of the situation and hopes to resume all activities as soon as possible. In a difficult moment like this, we ask everyone for a great sense of responsibility: FIM Europe's priority is the total protection of the riders, organizers, the public and all personnel involved in the events. "
Alessandro Sambuco, Secretary General of FIM Europe: “The actions of FIM Europe are ensured by the operation of the staff of the General Secretariat and the regular activities of the management bodies through online meetings. Every member is working smartly as employee safety is the top priority. We continue to work to guarantee all activities. The Board of Directors is in constant contact to ensure maximum response in these difficult times. Press releases and continuous communication will inform about any change. My staff and every member of all sports and non-sports committees continue to work to resume all activities as soon as possible.”
