Van Doninck and Renkens triumph in soaking Lommel
Even the experience and decisiveness of organizer BeTeMo were no match for the natural disasters today. Unfortunately, the Belgian opener in Lommel literally fell into the water. Only the first heats were completed. Brent Van Doninck (500cc) and Nathan Renkens (250cc) were the winners at the Inters.
Although the JMS competitions took place in fairly good conditions on Saturday, the rain at night proved to be a bad harbinger. In tough conditions, Brent Van Doninck piloted his Husqvarna to a first 450, or rather 500cc victory!
Behind Van Doninck, Lars Van Berkel seemed to have the longest lead, but the SKS Husqvarna pilot was ultimately snatched from second place by Freek van der Vlist. After the international violence, Kevin Van Geldorp emerged as the fastest VLM rider ahead of champion Jens Van Meer, Steve Seronval and Jilani Cambré.
Win Renkens, bad luck Liam Everts
Nathan Renkens could have imagined a nicer setting for his return to the 250. Nevertheless, the KTM Belgium pilot was the strongest. Renkens beat Nick Leerkes, the Italian Alberto Forato and the Finn Emil Jönrup. The first VLM member in this strong class was Kevin Schellens who came in 9th.
For Liam Everts, Lommel became one to quickly forget. During the timed training, another rider accidentally fell on Everts, causing him to hurt his leg. Fortunately, Liamski escaped without too much trouble.
