Take 5: Jayson van Drunen
The 2019 season is over and that means looking back but also looking forward! In this Take 5 we speak with Jayson van Drunen. The Brabander managed to win the KNMV Open Dutch Championship 65cc Small Wheels. Last weekend he won the Supercross Goes in Zeeland!
MXMag: The winner of the Supercross Goes, that was a nice victory, how did your races go?
JvD: “At the beginning of the weekend things didn't go so well, I couldn't find my way on the track. Things finally went well in the last heat and I started riding a lot more eagerly. I jumped another double and sat created a better rhythm. Winning is always fun!”
MXMag: You managed to win the ONK title, how did your season go?
JvD: “The season was not completely flawless, I had a broken tibia and an arm fracture, but despite the injuries I was able to ride. The arm was tapped and a special brace was made for my leg. I must say that Maxime Lucas missed three games and that made it easier for me. Of course I'm happy with the title.
MXMag: You performed particularly well in the EMX65 final, finishing ninth. I assume you must be satisfied with that?
JvD: “That's for sure, I was very satisfied with this match. After a crash in the first corner, I managed to come back from 39th to twelfth! I am very satisfied with ninth place in the EMX65.”
MXMag: You are the son of Marcel van Drunen, not related to Lotte van Drunen but a nephew of Bradley Mesters. Now I'm lost, please explain for the last time.
JvD: “That's right, everyone asks this, but Lotte is not related at all. Bradley is the son of Linda van Drunen, my father's sister, and that is why we are family.”
MXMag: What does your schedule look like in 2020?
JvD: “We are going to ride the KNMV Open Dutch Championship 65cc Large Wheels and the EMX65 with the aim of finishing in the top five during the final in Loket.”
MXMag: What is your goal for 2020, when will this season be a success?
JvD: “Of course I'm going for the title again. It won't be easy because I expect a lot from Jarne Bervoets, Ray van Gelder, Dean Grégoire, Dani Heitink and Tyla van de Poel. We will try to make the best of it.”
MXMag: Would you like to come back somewhere or add to this conversation?
JvD: “Of course I would like to thank my sponsors! Without these companies and the people behind them it would not be possible for me to compete at this level.”
MXMag: Thank you for this conversation and good luck! We're going to follow you.
JvD: “I thought it was a nice conversation, thank you for your attention!”
