Shane Mcelrath controlled to the win
In Tampa, Shane Mcelrath won the first event of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship EastCoast 250SX. The Yamaha rider led from the first lap and won the final ahead of Honda riders Chase Sexton and Jeremy Martin.
In the final over 15 minutes and a lap, McElrath takes the best start, but because he goes wider through the first corner, the Holeshot Award goes to Jordon Smith. The Kawasaki rider quickly loses the lead to McElrath, who then immediately distances himself. Martin quickly manages to take second place from Smith, who then comes under pressure from Sexton. The reigning champion is clearly in a hurry because he is looking for teammate Martin. With more than ten minutes to go, Sexton is in second place, but he can no longer catch up with the leader. McElrath wins, marking the third time he has won the first match of a championship! Sexton comes second ahead of teammate Martin, who managed to make a big impression after a serious back injury! Garrett Marchbanks crosses the finish line in fourth place, the 18-year-old rider manages to pass his teammate Smith halfway through the race. Joshua Hill finishes twelfth ahead of Frenchman Cedric Soubeyras.
