Nathan Watson wins the Championnat de France sur Sable again!
The toughest sand race in the world was held today on the Opal Coast in the north of France. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing pilot Nathan Watson has successfully defended his French title at the Enduropale du Touquet. Teammate Camille Chapeliere finished fourth, ending his championship in third place overall.
As the 1.200 competitors lined up for the start of a grueling three-hour event, Watson knew the importance of getting off to a fast start and then pushing hard during the first phase of the race. He started a bit too enthusiastically and received a 60-second stop-and-go penalty.
Unaware of what awaited him, Nathan left the first corner just outside the top 10 and started chasing the front runners. Fighting his way to fifth place during the first five laps, an efficient fuel stop saw him move into third place after the first hour. When the organizers subsequently punished him, Nathan's attack ended and he ultimately lost his chance of victory. Falling to fourth on the leaderboard, he eventually fought his way back onto the podium, finishing third at the checkered flag.
