Jeremy Van Horebeek: “The most difficult day of my career.”
With a second place at the finish, Jeremy Van Horebeek can of course be satisfied with his second Enduropale du Touquet. Last Sunday he climbed onto the second step of the podium of the biggest sand race of the season alongside winner Milko Potisek and overall winner Nathan Watson. A second place that can be considered a victory for many, but not if you are Jeremy Van Horebeek. The Honda SR Motoblouz rider gave everything.
Immediately after the finish, Van Horebeek fell off his bike, completely exhausted. Despite his vast experience in major events, the most challenging races on the international calendar and his mastery of the sand, The Jerre does not hesitate to say that this day at the Enduro was “the most difficult day of his career”. That says a lot about the level needed to win such a race.
“I rode for the win. So I didn't get what I wanted, but I gave it everything I had," said the Honda rider. “My mind and body were able to cope with what was probably the hardest day of my career, but the race pushed me to my limits. A second place in Le Touquet is of course not bad. But that doesn't mean I'm not disappointed," Van Horebeek continues.
“I fought for the win for more than three hours and it was only my second race on Le Touquet beach. I would like to thank all the fans for their support and messages. Also thanks to my team, Honda and everyone involved in this adventure. My apologies to all the riders I came into contact with during the race… I hope you enjoyed the show,” Jeremy concluded.
The Belgian will now focus on motocross and prepare as best as possible for the MXGP world championship. The first of 20 events on the 2020 calendar will be held at Matterley Basin on February 29 and March 1. Van Horebeek starts his second season there under the SR-Honda Motoblouz canopy.
