Following the official announcement of Yamaha Motor Europe's reformed racing strategy in August 2019, the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP and Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 teams are ready for an exciting 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship. The MXGP team will be led by the Dutch Wilvo team and the MX2 class by the Belgian KEMEA team.
The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team will, like last year, be occupied by Jeremy Seewer, Gautier Paulin and Arnaud Tonus on the YZ450FM machines. Seewer made huge progress in 2019 with six podium finishes and a fantastic second place in the MXGP World Championship. The talented 25-year-old is looking forward to staying on his trusty YZ450FM for another season where the ultimate goal is to convert last year's silver medal to gold.
They also want to build on the success of last season, where they quickly secured 12 podium places in the first 10 rounds. With the help of Yamaha's class-leading YZ450FM, Paulin and Tonus are determined to add to their podium finishes in 2020. Paulin missed out on the bronze medal by just 8 points in 2019, while his teammate Tonus rounded out the top five.
The re-establishment of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team strengthens Yamaha's 2020 racing strategy with the team featuring two title contenders in Jago Geerts and Ben Watson. One of only three race winners in 2019, reigning bronze medalist Geerts will line up as title favorite for the new season on the Yamaha YZ250FM, while Watson will look for even better performances after an injury in 2019.
For the first time, Yamaha Motor Europe has aligned its team outfit with Yamaha Motor USA's Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing team. This decision highlights Yamaha Racing's global partnership with Monster Energy and works to strengthen Yamaha Racing's global image. The 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship starts on March 1 at Matterley Basin in Winchester, England.
