BMW remains the best-selling motorcycle in Belgium and the Netherlands
Not only the sporting balance sheet was drawn up at the end of December, the motorcycle brands also closed their year. BMW remains the market leader in both Belgium and the Netherlands. With a total of more than 5.200 motorcycles, Yamaha is clearly number two in the Low Countries.
The differences between challenger Yamaha and frontrunner BMW were minimal in both countries. Traditionally, the Belgian market remains considerably larger with 24.930 motorcycles sold compared to 14.093 in the Netherlands.
Although these are registered motorcycles, not dirt bikes, the brands with off-road/adventure models are well represented. From an underdog in the motorcycle landscape KTM fifth and sixth place in the Netherlands and Belgium respectively. Although KTM experienced a slight decline, its sister brand Husqvarna the wind in the sails. Husqvarna Netherlands can even count itself as one of the strongest growers in the low countries with a growth of no less than 39,10%
Where Honda ends in the top 3 in Belgium with 2.961 motorcycles, good for a plus of 9,14%, takes Kawasaki those honors where above the Moerdijk. However, Kawa sells better in terms of numbers in Belgium, where it surpassed the 2.000 motor mark. Striking difference between both markets: Nimag sold just under 1.000 in the Netherlands Suzuki's on the man, while the counter in Belgium remained stuck at 657.
Among pure off-road specialists we are in the Belgian top 40 Beta (124 motorcycles sold) as 25th and Sherco 37th on. In the Netherlands, Beta Motor even occupies the 20th place. Complete the Belgian “hit parade” in terms of off-road violence:
Fantic at number 47, SWM at 54, Montesa at 57 and TM-Racing at 63. Gas Gas ended the year in 66th place, although we would not be surprised if the Spanish brand becomes one of the strongest growers in 2020!
