Barcia wins again, Cianciarulo on the podium!
Just like last year, a supporting role was predicted for Justin Barcia, but he now proves the opposite. The title battle is still long, but the first blow is worth a dollar. The Yamaha rider wins Anaheim1 again and he managed to stay ahead of Adam Cianciarulo and reigning champion Cooper Webb. Blake Baggett finished fourth ahead of Jason Anderson, Ken Roczen and Eli Tomac who had to settle for seventh.
When the starting gate goes down for the first final of the season, Vince Friese gets the best start ahead of Barcia, Justin Hill, Justin Brayton and Cianciarulo. Not a good start for Tomac who starts the race in twelfth place over 20 minutes and a lap! At the front, Friese quickly has to make way for Barcia while Brayton takes over second place, followed by Cianciarulo.
After three laps, Barcia already has a 3,5 second lead over the Honda rider. A lap later, Ciaciarulo manages to take over second place and he will try to reduce the gap to the leader. That will only work with support from Barcia.
The 27-year-old 'BamBam' briefly misses the track and loses the lead. Because Cianciarulo has taken some distance, the 'rookie' seems to be going to win, but the Kawasaki rider makes a mistake. He doesn't fall either, but Barcia takes over the lead and doesn't look back! It was already a party at Yamaha thanks to Justin Cooper, now Barcia is taking it even further.
Cianciarlo comes second ahead of an ill Webb. Baggett follows the champion like a shadow, but he finishes fourth ahead of Anderson who manages to work his way forward in the second half of the race. Roczen is not feeling well in the race and the German finishes sixth ahead of Tomac.
