What would it be like with Aleksandr Tonkov?
Former Russian GP rider Aleksandr Tonkov crashed in his own country at the beginning of September. He is still in rehabilitation. His back was reinforced with titanium pins and bolts. After his devastating crash on Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, Aleksandr Tonkov was flown to the Russian capital Moscow - 6000km away - where several broken vertebrae were stabilized and screwed together. At least 14 screws can be seen in the X-ray that Tonkov published on social media.
The Russian is currently undergoing major rehabilitation and speaks of continued improvements and training successes. Whether he will ever be able to race motocross again is uncertain because the intervertebral discs have also been compressed the crash. Immediately after his accident there were serious spinal injuries and signs of paralysis. Fortunately, these unpleasant symptoms disappeared quickly. The editors of MXMag wish Tonkov a full recovery.
