WMX: Victory Duncan, vice world title Van De Ven
New WMX world champion Courtney Duncan took the crown in the second round of the Turkish GP. Sara Andersen came 2nd again. Thanks to a solid weekend (3-3), Nancy van de Ven finally took second place in the championship! Her third vice world title now.
Larissa Papenmeier took off like a rocket, but her empire did not last long. Courtney Duncan took the lead almost immediately and rode to victory unthreatened. A sick Papenmeier did not have her day, she first had to leave direct competitor Van de Ven. Ultimately, the German would have to settle for fifth place.
Van De Ven saw the Danish Sara Andersen come alongside, but did hold off the pressing Amandine Verstappen. Andersen's strong performance again, she was also second on Saturday, earned her a first WMX podium. Nancy, in turn, also reached the podium at the expense of Verstappen. Given her return from a knee injury, Van de Ven thus secured the highest possible result.
In the French championship, Amandine Verstappen crowned her season with the title. In the World Cup, the Belgian just missed the final podium, but she did two places better than last year. Shana van der Vlist ended her World Cup season in Turkey with a fifth place (6-6). In the final score, Shana narrowly beat Andersen, as she finished sixth, barely one point behind Andersen.
