VMXdN Farleigh Castle: Belgians go for a win!
The unrivaled Motocross of Nations for veterans is without a doubt the largest vintage motocross race worldwide. Once again this year there are some great names on the participant lists in Farleigh Castle. On September 7 and 8, the motorcycle violence will erupt and it will be decided with the right wrist who will become “King of the Castle”.
The competition in Farleigh is an outsider. No vintage race attracts so many well-known top crossers. The organizing club is West Devon MCC, which uses the beautiful old school circuit in the South West of England for this glorious competition. Apart from a few minor things, the circuit has never really changed since the 70s. Nice and conservative, those British. In addition to the competitions for the Vets MXdN, there are also individual series. The biggest name in this list is without a doubt Graham Noyce, the 500 1979cc world champion. Also present: The English Belgian Christian Burnham (photo below). In preparation, he participated in a BK Oldtimercross race in Retie.
However, we look at the top teams from the “Nations” and we have a good reason for that. Team manager Danny Scheers was able to put together a dream team for our country this year. With Steve Ramon, Sven Breugelmans (photo intro), Ken de Dycker and Filip Van Dijck, we seem to be aiming for nothing less than a win in this prestigious competition. With four world titles on offer, only the highest honor is good enough. But there will be a fight because besides the Belgians there are two more teams that are not going for anything other than victory. Team USA (Mike Brown, Ivan Tedesco, Doug Dubach and John Dowd) won last year's race on their Huskies.
The English team is also not to be underestimated. With Kurt Nicoll, Stephen Sword, Mark Eastwood and Phil Mercer, manager Dave King brings heavy artillery into position. The Belgians seem to be favorites, but every race has to be completed. It is known that the four Belgians have already completed the necessary training on their EVO motorcycles. The foursome was previously seen at a classic car training at the Horensbergdam in Genk. We wish Team Belgium all the luck in Farleigh Castle. Also our colleagues from MXVintage are there and you are immediately assured of all the news and photo material during that weekend.
