Five minutes with Cyril Genot
As usual, Cyril Genot keeps his fans and sponsors informed through his newsletter. This time he looks back on the past two months. The last newsletter of the season. Because Cyril is going to rest a bit in the coming weeks and then get back to it!
I would like to thank you all in advance for your support and for following my adventures. This time I am a little later than usual, but since I rode my last race of the season last weekend, I thought I would combine the months of August and September in one newsletter
BMB Balen-Keiheuvel
Balen is a very nice circuit. I rode there often in my youth. When they asked me to participate, I didn't hesitate for a second, even though I rode the Grand Prix in Italy, Imola, the weekend (after that Thursday). The weather wasn't great, but the speed certainly was. I set the 3rd fastest time in qualifying and finished 7th – (after a fall at the start) 4th and 14th in the super final. I batted with, among others, Jago Geerts, Ben Watson and Calvin Vlaanderen, all three top players in the World Cup. That sure felt good. I enjoyed it immensely.
Last MX2 races of the season
Imola and Sweden were the last GPs I was able to attend. During the weekend of Imola I really doubted whether it was a good idea. Saturday in Imola turned out disastrously. I recovered on Sunday but just couldn't take any points home (21-21). Very frustrating. In Sweden I had a better feeling, although it didn't seem that way looking at my times. Too bad about my second heat, I was in the lead but fell in the first round so I had to leave last. I just have to accept it and realize that I have suffered serious injuries and that the level cannot be underestimated, it is the best in the world. I know what I have to work on and with a good winter I hope to do better next year.
ADAC Bielstein
The penultimate race of the German championship was held in Bielstein. The first half of the weekend went very well. I set the fourth fastest time of both groups. So I was one of the fastest riders of the weekend. Sunday, on the other hand... those damned last rounds. The first series was like an old-fashioned mudcross. Heavy rain showers during our race meant that I had to take off my glasses after a few laps. I was in the top 5 until I hit my eye with a stone on the last bend and I had a kind of blackout. I couldn't see anything anymore. I lost a few positions and managed to finish in 7th place. I had a slightly worse start in the second series, so I had to fight back to the front. I ended up in fifth place until the last lap where I completely lost control of the bike due to a doubled rider and only finished in 17th place. I was furious.
BK Orp The Great
And then the last game of the season arrived. I chose to participate in Orp Le Grand and not travel to the last ADAC competition. I would finish fourth or fifth in the championship (eventually fourth) and wanted to ride in front of my home crowd again. The weekend actually went perfectly. I achieved the best time and won both heats. I had a great time. As for the super final… The pilots were, in my opinion, unfairly placed at the starting gate. Drawing a number took precedence over the general qualifying times of the drivers. I drew number 43 and the chance of a good start among the 450cc bikes was very small. Conditions that were too dangerous due to all the dust meant that I consciously chose to drive indoors. I didn't take this risk. I'm going to rest a bit now and fully focus on 2020.
