New low for MON quads inters/nationals
Last Sunday a new low was reached at the MON quads internationals/nationals. Only four riders appeared at the start in Geldermalsen. The only inter was Ruben van Lith who came to a standstill after three laps in the first heat and ultimately did not start in the second heat. At the nationals, the only regular rider who started was Renzo van Poppel. In any case, Henny Baauw and Willem van Wijk also chose a place behind the starting gate for this occasion.
There was also little tension for the spectators in the match. In the first heat the differences were quite large. Van Wijk won the heat 52 seconds ahead of van Poppel, who was followed by Baauw at more than 11 seconds. In the second round, Van Poppel managed to stay somewhat close to another round winner, Van Wijk. Baauw next, more than a minute behind.
Unfortunately, it can be concluded that the course of the season in this class has been very disappointing. Despite the complaints about, among other things, the tracks where they start, the quad riders are not allowed to say too much about this. With starts in Lottum, Gemert, Deurne, Lommel, Eersel and Geldermalsen, there were plenty of beautiful courses and with Berghem and Heeswijk there are two more beautiful courses on the program.
Complaining about an organization or association is easy, but let us first say that everything starts with the arrival of the quad riders.
Perhaps it is time for both associations (MON and KNMV) to take each other into account when putting together their annual programme. In current times, it is in everyone's interest to work together and make each other stronger so that there are interesting competitions for the public to see and that it is possible for everyone to practice this beautiful sport.
Let's hope that things will change for the better in the future and that both associations will see full starting gates in all classes throughout the season in future seasons!
