Vice world champion Nancy van de Ven about her 2019 season
Nancy van de Ven was on the podium at every WMX round this year. The Zeelander certainly did not lack regularity. However, to finally win that world title, she came up short against the undisputed number one, Courtney Duncan. How does Van de Ven herself look back on her season?
A series victory in Valkenswaard and a nice addition to her trophy cabinet. It is not what Van De Ven was aiming for this year. However, she still managed to take second place this year. Not obvious since the No Fear Energy rider injured her knee in Loket.
“Second again in the championship Courtney Duncan was just very good this year and she deserves this title. I really had to fight for that vice world title until the last heat. Even until the last lap I had to fight to be on the podium here!”
Things did not go as planned for the 21-year-old top driver in free practice and qualifying. Still, she ended her Turkish weekend on a positive note. In the meantime, it became known on social media that Van de Ven will play for the Italian team next year Ghidenelli Racing Yamaha will come true.
“Overall it was an okay year. I'm really looking forward to the new season and a fresh start with Ghidenelli Racing Yamaha, my new team. I am very grateful for this opportunity. Also to approach it a little differently than what we did in 2019. My team would also like to thank my private sponsors and family for this year.”
