MXoN: British team picks Nathan Watson and Adam Sterry
After the first announcement of the British MX of Nations in mid-August, our 'neighbors' lost strong holders Ben Watson and Max Anstie. Team manager Mark Chamberlain announced their replacements this afternoon: Nathan Watson and Adam Sterry!
Due to the retirement of Anstie and Ben Watson, only Shaun Simpson remained of the original line-up. The ACU and Mark Chamberlain will therefore call on Nathan Watson (MX28), Adam Sterry (MX29) and Shaun Simpson (MX Open) for the MXON in Assen on September 1 and 2.
This will be their debut in the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations for both Adam Sterry and Nathan Watson. But they will be able to fall back on the experienced Shaun Simpson. Sterry just concluded his final season in the MX2 World Championship with a 6th place finish. The F&H Racing rider achieved several top-5 finishes and finished third in the first series in Lommel.
Although Nathan Watson (Red Bull KTM) has now retrained as an enduro rider, Ben's older brother has MXGP experience. Since he switched to his new discipline at the end of 2015. Nathan Watson previously competed for “Team GB” as a member of the British ISDE team. Nathan is still regarded as one of England's sand riders and earlier this year became the first Briton to win the famous Le Touquet beach race.
Mark Chamberlain: “It was tough to lose two drivers from our original selection. We were hopeful that Max (Anstie) would recover in time. Unfortunately that is not the case but I feel that the team is still very strong. So I'm lucky that we had great options, even after many injuries. The goal is still to go for a podium and I think this is more than feasible!”
