Leferink/Veldman see their lead decrease significantly
During the ninth competition of the National Sidecar Championships in Heerde, the tension in the battle for the title increased. Kevin van Vaerenberg/Bjorn Roes took the day's victory on the Kamperweg circuit. After a second place in the first heat, the Belgian/Dutch duo managed to win the second heat and, based on the second heat, kept Bram van Dijk/Loet van der Putten behind them. Wilfred Vos/Moreno Hoesen took third place in both heats and completed the podium. Frank Rijlaarsdam/Niklas Willemsen finished fourth in the overall standings with a seventh and fourth place, keeping the Frisian duo Durk-Jan Toelker/Ard Klein Nijenhuis behind them. Championship leaders Tim Leferink/Sam Veldman had a day full of setbacks and saw their lead in the standings shrink significantly.
First heat
It was the combination of Dijk/van der Putten that claimed the holeshot. They were followed by Vos/Hoesen, Boeve/Sellis, van Vaerenberg/Roes, and Koen Grondman/Rick Grondman. The heat started disastrously for Leferink/Veldman and they came to a standstill in the first corner and only finished fourteenth. After a rapid rise to ninth place, the duo fell back a few places after a fall to gather all the courage to start their catch-up race again. In the third lap, van Varenberg/Roes passed Boeve/Sellis and Vos/Hoesen and came in second, well behind van Dijk/van der Putten. Two laps later, Vos/Hoesen briefly lost their third place to Boeve/Sellis and two laps later ended up third again. Van Vaerenberg/Roes managed to get within five seconds in their pursuit of van Dijk/van der Putten, but the deficit ultimately proved to be too big. Van Dijk/van der Putten won the round ahead of van Vaerenberg/Roes and Vos/Hoesen. Boeve/Sellis ended up on their side in the last lap and it was Grondman/Grondman who crossed the finish line in fourth place. After a catch-up race from fifteenth, Tjoelker/Klein Nijenhuis finished fifth ahead of Leferink/Veldman.
Second heat
Vos/Hoesen took the holeshot ahead of Boeve/Sellis, Rijlaarsdam/Willemsen, van Dijk/van der Putten and van Vaerenberg/Roes. In the first lap Vaerenberg/Roes passed van Dijk/van der Putten to start their advance. Now the second laps were the bottleneck for Leferink/Veldman. The duo had to deal with stuck chains and had to watch the heat from the side. Rijlaarsdam/Willemsen saw both van Vaerenberg/Roes and van Dijk/van der Putten pass in this lap and now finished fifth. For Boeve/Sellis, the fifth round was the final stop. The duo came into contact with another combination and turned upside down. In the meantime, Van Vaerenberg/Roes had taken over the leadership from Vos/Hoesen. Van Dijk/van der Putten also passed Vos/Hoesen and gave chase. Van Vaerenberg/Roes managed to withstand the pressure and took both the heat and the day victory. Van Dijk/van der Putten crossed the finish line in second place within one second. Vos/Hoesen, Rijlaarsdam/Willemsen followed well behind. John Nielsen/Mikkel Modekjaer took advantage of the problems of other combinations and saw the checkered flag in fifth.
With the match in Holten still to go, it could become exciting in the battle for the title. Despite their zero score, Leferink/Veldman were still credited with 66 points and retained the lead. However, the lead has shrunk to 19 points over van Vaerenberg/Roes, who are followed at twelve points by van Dijk/van der Putten. The last competition will be held on October 6.
