King Coldenhoff finishes the job!
Under the approving eye of King Willem Alexander, Glenn Coldenhoff also won his second race. Despite an eventful heat, Jeffrey Herlings crossed the line in fourth. However, the Netherlands stood head and shoulders above the rest in front of their own audience. Jeremy Van Horebeek led Team Belgium to silver!
The decisive third heat started well for MXGP world champion Tim Gajser who took the holeshot ahead of Jeremy Van Horebeek and Ivo Monticelli. Jeffrey Herlings started at the age of 15de to the match.
Not only Kevin Strijbos crashed in the first round, 'the bullet' also fell.
After 8 minutes, leader Gajser bit the sand, allowing Van Horebeek to take the lead. The Jerre's reign was short lived as an incomparable Glenn Coldenhoff stormed from P6 to the front in no time! Coldenhoff also held firm while Van Horebeek had to give up some positions. Herlings fell halfway and had to chase from P19. Spurred on by the Dutch public, he finished in a fine fourth place. The big standout was of course Glenn Coldenhoff. After his sensational double victory in Red Bud, “the Hoff” reaffirmed himself as the crack of tough and difficult courses. The Standing Construct KTM rider became the logical individual winner in the Open class,
Kevin Strijbos also recovered well after his hiccup. The Belgian veteran came as 11thde crossed the line which was enough for Belgian silver! Although the Belgians were scared after Jago Geerts' failure in the opening heat, the boys of team manager Johan Boonen did achieve the highest possible result: silver. The battle for bronze turned out to be a thriller. For a long time, France seemed to claim the last podium place, but the retirement of Gautier Paulin in the final phase did the reigning champions a blow! The regularity of the British 'emergency team' consisting of Shaun Simpson, Nathan Watson and Adam Sterry was ultimately rewarded with bronze.
