Brown/Chamberlain surprising but supreme winners of the GP sidecar cross final in Rudersberg!
The British combination of Stuart Brown/Josh Chamberlain has triumphantly won the last Grand Sidecar Cross of 2019 in Rudersberg, Germany. In both heats the holeshot was taken by the English nestor Brown, never to relinquish first place. The competition was left behind, with the new World Champions Bax/Stupelis coming closest to Brown with a third and a second place. Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart finished second and fourth and therefore third in the daily total.
Koen Hermans/Nicolas Musset were already assured of third place in the World Cup after the first heat. The vice champion, Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart, and the new World Champion, Bax/Stupelis, were already assured of their World Championship spot after the previous GP and were therefore satisfied on the podium for the final drinks of the 2019 World Cup Sidecar Cross!
About 38 World Championship teams had registered for the last sidecar cross GP of 2019 in Rudersberg. The final of the World Championships there is traditional, already at the beginning of the FIM Cup sidecars in the XNUMXs, they already went to the southern German location.
The atmosphere is unapproachable and has something magical that makes every GP team, despite the fact that they can no longer rise or fall for the World Cup standings, want to be present in Rudersberg to give it their all one last time. It is the last traditional circuit that is the only one still on the World Cup calendar after the disappearance of iconic places such as Betekom, for example. It is hoped that promoter WSC, who is still working on the 2020 calendar, also understands this and holds on to the promised final spot for the World Cup Sidecar Cross.
Most of the World Championship prizes had already been awarded to Rudersberg. The only tension on that front was mainly about third place in the World Cup. Although a lot had to happen before Dierckens/Bax would take that place away from Hermans/Musset, who would travel to Germany with a lead of 36 points.
Due to the many injuries, there were many occasional couples in Rudersberg. Van Werven rode with Kunnas, Justin Keuben could count on the services of Jens Mans and Julian Veldman started with none other than his younger brother Sam Veldman. The duo used to be untouchable in the Kids and Sidecars and stole the show in Rudersberg seven years ago by simply jumping over the large table mountain during a demo, and mind you, that was back in the day when only half the GP field did this. did. Everyone knew then that these 'children' would certainly shine later. Now for the last GP of 2019, Veldman/Veldman were really on the list of GP teams in Rudersberg.
Saturday's qualifiers were all about Brown's teams. Dad Stuart Brown won Group A and son Jake Brown won Group B.
With 38 registered teams, this meant that 8 teams would not be allowed to participate on Sunday.
The Belgians Boussy/De Schacht just couldn't make it and became 2nd reserve. Unfortunately, the curtain also fell for the Dutchman Nick Maas, in the jail with the German Engelbrecht. Every disadvantage has its advantage, if you are forced to stand on the sidelines, then in Rudersberg. The ideal place where plenty happens both on and off the track in the sometimes extra-vagant revelry that simply takes place in Rudersberg.
Moreover, the season is not yet over for Maas because together with Engelbrecht he is one of the three German teams that will compete for the country's honor during the Sidecarcross of Nations in Schwedt, Germany on October 6.
Heat 1
Nice sunshine and a large audience made the atmosphere perfect when the starting gate opened for the first GP heat at a quarter past one.
Brown/Chamberlain were on their toes and took the inside holeshot with Vanluchene on second, the Frenchman Thomas on three, Jake Brown on four, Van Werven on five and Bax/Stupelis on six.
Immediately after 300 meters the duel for third place for the World Cup was over. Dierckens/Bax, fourth in the World Championship standings, immediately had a broken steering damper and had to immediately go to the pits and would score zero points. As a result, Hermans/Musset, regardless of their score, could no longer be tracked in terms of points and their third World Cup place was secured.
At the front, Brown kept a steady pace and had Vanluchene about three seconds behind him until the 20 minute race. After this, however, the gap widened and nestor Stuart Brown, together with baking player Josh Chamberlain, were able to take a glorious victory in the first heat. Vanluchene then finished second at just under ten seconds and was lucky that the race did not last longer. Bax/Stupelis, third at the finish, came awfully close.
Bax, who started sixth, quickly caught Van Werven and two laps later Jake Brown and they also cleverly passed Thomas on the inside. However, by then Brown and Vanluchene had already flown and more than a third place was not possible for Bax/Stupelis.
Young promise Jake Brown rode another solid race and finished fourth.
On fifth we saw Varik/Daiders who again aggressively came forward from a place around the top ten after the start. They almost went into the green when they wanted to overtake Compalati and after this move driver Daiders also indicated to driver Varik that it could be a little less. The same applies if they had simply gone off the track and crashed hard... that didn't happen and the eastern block duo took a nice fifth place at the finish.
Hermans/Musset finished sixth after a bad opening, which only left them in around 20th place. A great achievement considering that racing driver Musset is still suffering from a badly bruised ankle suffered last weekend during the French GP.
Van Werven and occasional baking player Kunnas finished seventh. Compalati/Chopin took eighth place with Thomas/Lebreton after their good start at nine at the finish. The Swiss Heinzer completed the top ten. Santermans finished 13th, Keuben/Mans from the back finished 14th.
Kops/De Laat were around 11th place for a long time, but in the last lap they fell hard at the big table mountain in a duel with the Englishman Foden who lost his speed right near the big table. Veldman/Veldman also left the match when player Sam Veldman dropped out of the box after a touch on the whoop section and they decided to play it safe.
Heat 2
The second heat started without the two Dutch teams of Van der Lagemaat/Van Hal and Kops/De Laat. Both had to cancel the second GP appointment in Rudersberg due to injuries.
At the start it was once again Brown/Chamberlain who took the lead on the inside, now followed by Hermans, the Swiss brothers Cuche and Bax/Stupelis on fourth.
Team Bax soon overtook the Swiss tandem of Cuche and the hunt was on for Hermans' second sidecar. So, after 5 minutes of competition, a nice duel for second place followed, which was decided within a lap and a half by Bax, who passed Hermans nicely at speed. Then Bax was in trouble...however, Brown/Chamberlain were clearly the best today. They simply outpaced the second couple Bax/Stupelis to gloriously win the second heat with a lead of 15 seconds and with it the GP in Rudersberg, Germany! New-born World Champion Bax came in second and could do nothing but be satisfied after a few tiring and strange days in which the motto was not purely sportsmanship, but rather enjoying the wealth achieved. And in that rhythm, with a third and a second place, then taking second place in the daily total is certainly not an achievement.
Hermans/Musset were third in the second heat after Bax had passed them, but once again, as often this season, they had to deal with bad luck! This time the bucket wheel was defective and was rocking in all directions. Hermans had to enter the pits to give up third place to the fighting pack of Jake Brown/Millard and Cuche/Cuche. Brown/Millard eventually took third place with verve and brought the team across the finish line in third place. Jake Brown was also almost allowed onto the day's podium, but Vanluchene put his sidecar past Dierckens three laps before the end and took fourth place at the finish. With second place from the first heat, this was just enough to take third place on the day's podium. are allowed to climb in Rudersberg. Dierckens/Bax then finished fifth unthreatened. The Estonian/Latvian combination of Varik/Daiders came sixth. In seventh place we saw the Cuche brothers who had to give up some places after their good start but could be satisfied with this classification. The Czech Kolenchik/Hejhal finished eighth and Van Werven came in at ninth, who could be satisfied after another solid match. The Swiss Heinzer once again closed the top ten as in the first moto.
Veldman/Veldman now successfully finished the race and debuting baking player Sam Veldman was therefore not inferior to his new international colleagues, despite or perhaps even because they had a nasty moment after a double jump, but was just able to keep the team straight on the track. .
Keuben/Mans finished thirteenth, Santermans/Beleckas fourteenth and Herman/Musset managed to finish sixteenth after their long standstill in the pits.
The Sidecar Cross World Championship has come to an end after a long and dramatic season with Bax/Stupelis as the new World Champions, Vanluchene/Van den Boogaart as runner-up and Hermans/Musset in third place. Brown/Chamberlain still outpaced Dierckens/Bax in the final standings due to their strong performance in Rudersberg and finished fourth. Fifth couple Dierckens/Bax had hoped for more in the final ranking but are satisfied with their first GP win this season.
For some teams, the helmets can be well greased for hibernation in the closet, for others not because they are one of the three chosen teams to defend the Landseer in Schwedt, Germany, during the Sidecarcross of Nations on October 6.
