VLM Genk: Bielen animates, Van Meer wins!
The VLM Inters champions in both the 250 and 500cc classes, Greg Smets and Jens Van Meer respectively, had been known for some time. However, Van Meer left nothing behind and was once again the best, ahead of a strong Glenn Bielen (2-2). Mark Boot triumphed in the quarter liters.
Fun MX was responsible for a true champions' party at the Horensbergdam this weekend. After all, the finals in all series were completed in Genk. Congratulations to all 2019 champions: Jenne Van Hoof (Beloften), Jamie Haanen (Juniors 250), Robert Martin (Juniors 500), Gert Vanoirbeek (Nieuwelingen 500 A), David Boons (Nieuwelingen Open B), Patrick Schruers (Novices Open C), Lars Der Boven (Nationals 250), Matteo Puffet (Nationals 500), Nick Janssens-Dave Goris (sidecars).
At the same time, the BMB riders completed the penultimate race of their championship in Genk. Jens Carlier, number three of the BK inters 500cc lit the fuse in the first heat. The early leader was recalled after 2 laps by Jens Van Meer. Mark Boot, who was second, also had to let Van Meer pass. Still, Boot kept a tight pace and ended up just a few seconds behind winner Van Meer. Carlier finished fourth.
However, the great animator of the series was Glenn Bielen (photo above). Bielen had started almost in the middle of the pack but came back very strong. In the final phase, Glenn was even the fastest man in the race. But up to and including the sixth man, Bram Valckx, the differences were minimal anyway because the top 6 crossed the line in under 10 seconds!
In the second series there was more separation. Once again Bielen provided a spectacle. Van Meer immediately took command, but Bielen was not inferior to the BeTeMo star. Glenn briefly took the lead, but in the end Van Meer came out on top. Steve Seronval, Mark Boot and Roy Sillien completed the top 5. Just like in the first heat, Romain Delbrasinne (photo above) finished second in the 250cc. The young pilot from Andene came back strongly after a poor start.
