VMCF Koningshooikt: Stijn Verstrepen continues to rule at 't Fort
Stijn Verstrepen fully capitalized on his favorite status at Fort Koningshooikt. A series of wins was not possible for the Husky rider, but with double second places he was the most regular of the MX1 riders. Verstrepen was also the fastest on the legendary circuit in 2016 and 2018.
In the first series there was a superior Dennis Wagemans who controlled the entire heat. Verstrepen finished second ahead of Jasper Van Der Mieren. Natale Gordano took a nice fourth place ahead of Frederic Weigert, who was only the last to start the assignment after a terrible start. Weigert had dropped a lot of points and saw Wagemans and Vandermieren closing in on him in the championship standings.
In the final series, defending champion Weigert put the finishing touches. The Honda rider won the round in a sprint with Stijn Verstrepen who had his hands full with Mike Gilot and Natale Gordano. There was a serious crash in the final series, with Dennis Wagemans and Jasper Van Der Mieren as victims, who lost their bonus from the first series. Stijn Verstrepen was beaming with the flowers for Frederic Weigert and Dennis Wagemans.
There was also a battle for points in the MX2 class. Everyone already saw Vincent Collet as the new VMCF champion, but the Yamaha rider crashed hard in the first moto and his day was immediately over. Bastien Houche took full advantage of Wannes Van De Voorde's mechanical bad luck to take the win ahead of Daimy Koch and Maxime Colson.
In the standings, Vincent Collet has now completely lost his bonus and is hot on the heels of Daimy Koch, Mathieu Lefevre and Bastien Houche. The other victories went to Dailey Van De Ketterij (Nat.MX2) and a surprising Keanu Dutre (Nat.MX1). Next week another classic on the VMCF calendar because then the caravan will travel to Attenhove of the Godfremont family.
