MX Keiheuvel: “The Hoff” also takes Flanders Masters Motocross title!
After his dominance in the 500cc heats, Glenn Coldenhoff showed his class for a third time in the sunny Super Final. After twenty minutes plus one lap through the loose sand of the Keiheuvel, “the Hoff” collected more than a 23-second bonus on Shaun Simpson. Nor a surprise because Simpson had finished second twice in the half-litres.
Unfortunately no Strijbos (technical problems), nor Getteman at the start in the Superfinal. To the delight of his growing group of fans, Jago Geerts now performed much better than earlier in the day. Jago was clearly the best MX2, sorry 250cc of the group. Jago started well, but first had to deal with veteran Ken De Dycker. Then it went staccato for “the Iceman”. First Nathan Watson went for the axe, then Kullas. In the end the Kemea Yamaha pilot was even faster than 450 rider Shaun Simpson!
Everyone knew in advance that the third heat would be decisive. Kullas once again showed that he is physically ready. For “hobbycross racer” De Dycker, however, the devil was in the start. Keeno started well in fifth but could not hold on and only finished in 11th. Absolutely no shame considering the strong field of participants. After his tough 12 hours of La Chinelle, Jeffrey Dewulf ended his day strongly in seventh, just behind fellow beach racer Nathan Watson. Lars Van Berkel fought his way to an honorable mention. The Husqvarna SKS Racing rider was deeply hidden in the field after the start. No problem for Lars, who rolled up his sleeves and still finished eighth, or sixth in the 500cc and second Dutchman.
The Superfinal podium with Coldenhoff – Simpson – Geerts put the three big trendsetters of the day in the spotlight. A nice ending for a very successful relaunch of the MX van de Keiheuvel. As in the heyday of this Balenian monument, the public attended the meeting en masse, the atmosphere was excellent and the organizing team KMC Mol received a lot of praise for the organization and the redesigned circuit. For those who were not there, keep in mind the Keiheuvel for the 65th edition next year!
