The very first E-X Bike World Cup: This is what you need to know!
It was announced as fresh news at the end of March at the MXGP of Valkenswaard and next week the time has come. The first World Cup for electrically powered mountain bikes will take place during the MXGP of Imola on Saturday, August 17. The new competition raises a lot of questions and we are trying to answer them.
The event allows MXGP spectators and cycling enthusiasts to witness an E-Bike race on a motocross track for the first time. The individual competition is reserved for electrically assisted bicycles that will race together but are divided into four categories.
EXBGP/EXBGPW (women): E-Bike with pedal assistance of more than 25 km/h but a maximum of 45 km/h.
EXB2/EXB2W (women): E-Bike with pedal assistance of a maximum of 25 km/h.
Participants must hold a valid FIM E-X Bike World Cup license and request an entry before the event date. Please contact sportoffice@mxgp.com for more information. The age limit is between 14 and 55 years. The riders must wear the correct helmet and protective equipment according to the FIM E-X Bike World Cup regulations.
A technical check must be carried out before the competition. Riders have two options for technical control: Friday, August 16 from 10.00 a.m. to 18.00 p.m. and Saturday, August 17 from 10.00 a.m. to 15.00 p.m.
The bicycles are equipped with a transponder and a license plate. The World Cup is run in a unique combined race of 25 minutes + 1 lap in which all classes are collected. The final winners will be divided by class and gender. In each class there are separate classifications for men and women with ultimately 4 different winners.
